USAID. MISSION TO TANZANIA
Project to establish an effective livestock development (LD) and marketing system in Tanzania.
1974
Abstract
The project will create the Tanzanian Livestock Marketing Company (TLMC); implement range management and water development aspects of Phase II of the International Development Association"s LD Project; improve the financial and management operation of the Tanzania LD Authority (LIDA); and provide a comprehensive sector analysis. A single contractor will provide nine specialists to implement the project under the supervision of a direct-hire A.I.D. project manager who will likely also be responsible for all other USAID/T livestock projects. To help alleviate Tanzania"s serious manpower shortage and to facilitate project implemenation, 10 Tanzanians will receive U.S. academic training in a variety of specialties and will return to assume key positions in the TMLC, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the LIDA. A total of 11 TMLC officers will receive U.S. study tours. In addition, the contract team will use AID-financed training materials to provide formal and informal on-the-job training, especially to marketing, holding ground, and buying teams. It is expected that the project will benefit some 125,000 traditional and small producer families directly and some 1,500,000 urban and rural consumers indirectly.
