Abstract
This Jamaica study presents statistical data at the national, urban, and rural levels under five major headings: nutrition and health status; dietary beliefs; dietary practices; the correlation of nutritional status with other variables; and nutrition and health policies and programs. An introductory chapter summarizes the data and a concluding section provides key statements from the literature regarding nutrition surveillance, malnutrition and its causes, weaning foods, bottle hygiene, the effect of gardening on anemia rates, respiratory and diarrheal diseases, and health personnel shortages. An annexed annotated bibliography indicates the type, methodology, sample characteristics, and, where appropriate, location of the 78 literature sources (1970-84) of the present study.
