Abstract
The information is arranged under six major headings: nutrition and health status; dietary beliefs; dietary practices; the correlation of nutritional status with socioeconomic variables; nutrition and health policies and programs; and commentaries on the above issues. Among key findings on malnutrition are that it: is most severe in the central region; mainly takes the forms of protein-calorie malnutrition, anemia, and vitamin A deficiency; begins in children after 6 months of age; and correlates with a relatively large household size, low per capita income, and low female education levels. The data contained in the report are also stored in a computerized system allowing for updates and individual literature searches on specific topics. Appended is a 95-item bibliography (1975-83) which describes the listed documents in terms of type of study, methodology, sample characteristics, and location; many citations include a brief abstract.
