Reports on contractor"s activities during the period 1/81-1/82 in a project to provide a health care delivery system in Mauritania"s Trarza region.
1981
Abstract
As of 2/82, 100 of the 192 targeted village health workers (VHW"s) will have been trained in health care and prevention; visuals have been designed for use in the curriculum. Tests administered to trained VHW"s during supervisory visits were used to evaluate individual retraining needs. A household survey, eventually to be administered to all project villages, is underway and will provide data on the health impact of VHW"s. Formal training seminars for project staff continue, and a circulating library providing essential reference material for use by trainers is being established. Nearly all commodities have arrived and should be distributed by 2/82. Reduction of expatriate management staff is a serious concern that requires immediate resoltuion. Other problems include the underuse of Peace Corps Volunteers, the need to integrate the revolving account contractually into the project, and the superior attitude exhibited towards the Chief of Party by the host government project director.
