Memorandum of Understanding under the FY87 Food for Peace Title II Agreement with Ecuador describes a project to utilize 2,500 MT of Title II nonfat dry milk to produce a formula, called a "calf milk replacer," which will be sold to dairy producers throughout Ecuador.
1987
Abstract
Dairy producers will feed the calf milk replacer to their calves, rather than allowing them to nurse milk from their mothers, and the milk that was formerly nursed will then be available for sale to consumers. The project will lead to higher dairy incomes, because producers will sell the fresh milk for more than they pay for the calf milk replacer. The project will be implemented by Ecuador"s Regional Agricultural Services Cooperative (COORSA) in cooperation with Land O"Lakes, Inc. (LOL). LOL will help COORSA establish a plant to manufacture the calf milk replacer (which will initially include the nonfat dry milk and a LOL proprietary supplement) and to promote an improved complete calf feeding program. TA will also be provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
