The project aims to restore and upgrade the power station's capacity to meet the increasing energy demands of Pakistan. As of October 2012, the rehabilitation work has resulted in the restoration of 280MW of capacity out of the total estimated gains of 475MW. The rehabilitation efforts have focused on several key areas, including the replacement of boiler super heater tubes at units 1, 2, and 3, which has restored 230MW of capacity. Additionally, the replacement of air pre-heater elements at unit 4 has added another 50MW to the restored capacity. The project has also made significant progress in the procurement and installation of various equipment, including electric motors, DC storage batteries, and 220kV circuit breakers. The project has also made significant progress in the area of environmental compliance. The Environmental Audit Report of MTPS was shared with the concerned staff at the power plant to ensure compliance with the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (EMMP). The project has also certified two reimbursement claims for PIL Item#11 and 22, totaling $890,340, and submitted them to the USAID Energy Office for approval.
