This manual provides guidelines on how to program and present national or regional courses on the use of natural hazards information in the preparation of investment projects for the Latin American and Caribbean regions.

Abstract
The course presented covers a program of 4-weeks duration which includes about 85 hours of formal instruction, 25 hours of classroom exercises, and 30 hours of technical field trips. The formal instructional component includes thematic units of a technical-scientific nature covering natural hazards in the countries of the two regions, thematic units covering methods and techniques for the analysis of natural hazards information, and thematic units covering the formulation and evaluation of investment projects. The classroom exercises component includes the execution of activities covering specific analytic methods and techniques, and the development of a final course case study. The technical field trip component includes visits to observe the presence of specific natural hazards and to the area of the final course case study. Includes classroom/homework exercises, recommended instructors" readings. a suggested bibliography, and sample examination questions. (Author abstract)
