Abstract
It is based on fieldwork conducted in Niger, including field trips to Filingue, Tillaberi, Maradi, Zinder, and Diffa. One week was spent visiting markets in northern Nigeria, and several days were spent in Abidjan, looking at potential export markets. Crops were selected for this study based on their relative importance in terms of production, apparent demand in both local and regional markets, and potential for processing products acceptable to consumers. These crops included peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, and fruit. Although onions are one of the most important vegetable crops in Niger, its discussion in this report is limited to the potential for dehydration and sale to processors in the regional market, because that crop has been the subject of separate studies in 1991 and 1992. A list of persons contacted for this study appears as Appendix G. (Author abstract)
