Project to strengthen the capacity of the newly created Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to manage national parks and reserves, increase tourism revenues, and preserve the country"s rich wildlife.

Abstract
The project will finance road maintenance equipment, vehicles, financial management TA, and selected studies. Specifically, by providing road maintenance machines, spare parts, and related training for KWS operators and mechanics, the project will upgrade KWS"s capacity to provide routine road maintenance and spot repairs in up to five of the national parks: Tsavo East, Tsavo West, Nairobi, Amboseli, and the Aberdares. Secondly, the project will finance about ten new 4-wheel drive vehicles, which will enable KWS staff to maintain a presence throughout the parks, assist tourists as needed, etc. TA will be provided to help KWS develop its financial control and planning systems. Studies of KWS organizational and management needs will be funded as well.
