Abstract
The bibliography surveys existing literature on rural development, focusing on participation at the local level. Most entries were selected from a survey of over 100 development or area-related journals published between 1960 and 1977. In addition, the "books received" lists of major journals were searched as well as footnotes and bibliographies among the most promising articles and books. Entries are grouped according to the following topics: Local Organization, Local Leadership and Elites, Political Participation, Political Factors Affecting Participation, Social Factors Affecting Participation, Institutional Contexts of Participation, Participation and Community Development, French Sources on Participation, and Spanish Sources on Participation.
