Philippines Markets

The Government of the Philippines" (GOP"s) Ministry of Human Settlements/Markets Program Office (MHS/MPO) will implement the project. The project will provide $18 million which the GOP"s Management Advisory Committee/Development Project Secretariat will loan to LGU"s on concessionary terms (9% for 27 years) for construction of new markets and/or upgrading or enlarging of exisiting markets. LGU"s participating in A.I.D."s Municipal Development Fund Project will not be eligible. A total of 110,000 sq meters of market space will be affected by the project. To implement and oversee project activities, the MHS/MPO will receive and thus also be able to provide LGU"s with technical assistance in project guidance and land use planning; financial and economic analysis; architectural and engineering design; and management and accounting systems. The MHS/MPO and its consultants at project sites will train LGU administrative personnel in manpower training, information sharing, and research and evaluation.
