USAID. BUR. FOR DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT. OFC. OF POPULATION
Project to identify and examine policy and social barriers to contraceptive availability and the use of surgical family planning (FP) methods in selected LDC"s.
1979
Abstract
A contractor will implement the project. First, the project will develop a list of constraints to FP and population planning policy in nine LDC governments (three per year). Second, research protocols will be designed by indigenous researchers, the contractor, and A.I.D. to provide a focus on policy and social issues identified as impediments during the above activity. The impact, feasibility, and cost-effectiveness of alternative population policy designs will then be measured. Third, three technical meetings will be held per LDC per year to implement activities to identify impediments, monitor research activities, and assure a continued dialogue between indigenous research analysts and decisionmakers. Social science expertise will likewise be provided to the LDC officials and A.I.D. Project Amendment of 8/15/79 extends the project through FY 82 to permit development of country-specific strategies for each case study country. Staff assignments will be realigned to ensure more intensive follow-up, monitoring, and assistance to activities undertaken in case-study countries. (PD-AAI-243)
