Postpartum study of the TCu 380A IUD -- Hospital de Maternidad, San Salvador, El Salvador
The immediate postplacental period is an opportune time to insert an intrauterine device (IUD); the dilated cervix facilitates insertion, and it is a time when impoverished women are most likely to have access to appropriate medical attention.

Abstract
Immediate postpartum IUD insertion, however, has been associated with high expulsion rates, and some physicians continue to be reluctant to insert IUD"s at this time. This one year study evaluates a clinical trial conducted at the Hospital de Materninad in San Salvador, El Salvador, to assess the practicality of providing IUD"s to postpartum women. The IUD used in the study was the Copper T 380A (TCu 380A). The study focussed on pregnancy, expulsion, and continuation rates, and on reports of complications and complaints. (Author abstract)
