Abstract
CAIC will implement the project under supervision of the Regional Development Office. CAIC"s organizational structure will be redefined by updating its charter and bylaws, identifying member functions, recruiting new members, and introducing a sound subscription structure to meet budget requirements. Relations with affiliates will be improved and those with extra-regional organizations such as the Organization of American States developed, and task forces will be set up to study issues of concern. Programs will be developed to publicize CAIC"s purpose and promote community business enterprises. In the area of government/business relations, CAIC will seek positive working relationships with public officials at all levels and intensify lobbying efforts. In addition, regional position papers will be drafted regarding labor and trade relations. To promote economic development in the region, CAIC will work with national groups to identify what products might be commercially successful and will encourage local firms to emphasize exports and seek joint ventures. CAIC will also provide advice concerning credit and other services. CAIC will monitor the region"s economy, develop an in-house capability for industrial research/analysis, and establish an information center on economic trends and public policy to enable it to respond to queries from its affiliates. CAIC will conduct seminars for private sector business personnel in general areas such as accounting, as well as in regard to specific business needs. CAIC will also sponsor conferences on topics such as low-cost credit and will coordinate educational activities with related organizations. Finally, immediate impact activities will be initiated to demonstrate CAIC"s service capability and enhance the community image of business associations. Such activities include chamber twinning, junior achievement programs, scholarships, and BIMAP training.
