USAID. MISSION TO DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
PACR of a project (FY84-FY89) to establish an educational counseling office in the Dominican Republic for persons interested in studying at U.S.

Abstract
educational institutions. The project, which was extended 2 years to allow the utilization of all dollar funds, was very successful in providing valuable information to Dominicans as well as U.S. citizens and third country nationals. The services were in high demand and not offered elsewhere in the country. An estimated 34,000 students visited, called, or contacted the office. Individual counseling services covered selection of and application to U.S. institutions, solicitation of scholarships, and career couseling, as well as distribution of university entrance exam registration bulletins, test score interpretation, and cultural orientation. Despite these achievements, ongoing funding of the office is uncertain. Since the grantee, Instituto Cultural Dominico- Americano, was unwilling to assume complete responsibility, the office is now functioning with a reduced staffing level.
