Project assistance completion report : project no. 515-0277 -- endowment grant to the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress

endowment to support the efforts of the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress, a Costa Rican NGO, to develop programs carried out in Central America by its Centers for Human Progress, Peace and Reconciliation, and Philanthropy. Although no specific activities or targets were specified in the grant agreement, the Foundation used interest generated by the $500,000 USAID grant to execute activities related to women's rights and participation in the economy, political participation, disarmament, demilitarization, and conflict prevention and resolution. The experience gained in monitoring the grant, the first dollar endowment established by USAID under the 1993 Foreign Assistance legislation, is limited because of the project's early termination due to the closing of USAID/Costa Rica.
