Abstract
It also draws conclusions applicable to other African countries. Data are presented from provider, patient, and household surveys conducted from 1992-94. The research analyzes relationships between quality of care and cost recovery reforms in Niger. It presents detailed information on differences between the public and private sectors in Senegal and the relationships between quality of care and efficiency among health care providers. Findings from the study show how strategies to improve quality can increase efficiency, raise demand for services, and help generate funds to sustain quality improvements in African health systems. The study is extensively illustrated with exhibits and graphs. (Author abstract)
