Abstract
ABADE's objectives are to increase domestic and foreign investment, stimulate employment, and improve sales of Afghan products. ABADE's public-private alliances with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) help reduce the risks involved in business expansion. The project coordinates with other USAID programs to improve the business enabling environment, develop a skilled workforce, and facilitate access to finance. ABADE's investment in a medical-grade cotton production line for a manufacturer of hospital equipment is an example of an SME alliance. This investment provided capital to an existing SME, enabling it to expand its operations and create jobs. ABADE's investment in the production of high-quality compost using thousands of imported worms is an example of an innovation public-private alliance (PPA). This investment provided capital for a new business idea, stimulating innovation and job creation in the agricultural sector. The project has made significant progress in its first quarter of operation. ABADE has established partnerships with several SMEs, providing them with capital and technical assistance to expand their operations. The project has also facilitated the creation of new jobs, with a focus on women's employment. ABADE's public-private alliances have helped to reduce the risks involved in business expansion, enabling SMEs to access new markets and increase their sales. ABADE's performance indicators show a positive trend, with an increase in the number of SMEs participating in the project and a growth in their sales. The project's geographic distribution of active public-private alliances is also expanding, with a focus on rural areas. ABADE's collaboration with government ministries and other donor agencies has been successful, with a focus on improving the business enabling environment and facilitating access to finance. The project's management and administrative issues are being addressed through regular monitoring and evaluation. ABADE's personnel are experienced and well-trained, with a focus on providing technical assistance to SMEs.
