Abstract
The initiative focuses on advancing sustainable landscapes in the Andean Amazon region, with a geographic context that includes the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve and surrounding areas. The CWR is a protected area of approximately 1,700 square kilometers, and the buffer zone is home to several indigenous communities, including the Siona and Secoya peoples. The SL initiative is working in the Cuyabeno buffer zone, which includes 10 pre-associations located in the Palma Roja, Aguas Negras, and Tarapoa parroquias. These pre-associations are San José, La Calumeña, 16 de Abril, Brisas de Cuyabeno, Flor de Oriente, 3 de Mayo, Tigre Grande, Nuevo Milenio, Unión Agrícola, and Jaime Roldos. The initiative is also working in the Shushufindi canton, which is located within the CWR. In the Madre de Dios/Cusco landscape, the SL initiative is working in the Province and District of Tambopata, with several indigenous communities, including CCNN Tres Islas, CCNN de Palma Real, CCNN de Infierno, CCNN Sonene, CCNN Puerto Arturo, and CCNN San Jacinto. The initiative is also working with the Asociación de Productores de Filadelfia and various tourism operations in the upper and middle Tambopata. The SL approach to collaboration involves aligning strategies and actions with other stakeholders working within the landscapes to ensure synergies, complement efforts, and avoid duplication. The initiative has made progress in collaborating with the government in Ecuador and Peru, including meetings with national government actors and participation in planning actions at the national level. In Peru, the initiative is working with the Ministry of Environment (MINAM) and the Regional Government of Madre de Dios (GOREMAD) to promote community forestry in the Amazon. The ICAA Support Unit (ISU) has been involved in several initiatives, including participation in gender workshops to develop the ICAA gender and partner institutional strategies. The ISU has also provided feedback on the gender consultancy TORs and participated in the communication's strategy meeting to review communication strategy for ICAA II. The initiative has also held meetings with the ISU Knowledge Management team to review knowledge management strategies and exchange ideas on information platforms. The SL initiative is working towards several intermediate results, including the development of a national and regional platform to promote community forestry in the Amazon, the creation of a road map for Madre de Dios Region development initiatives, and the support of forest users in the Tambopata Reserve and its buffer zone. The initiative is also working towards the development of a partnership with GOREMAD's Agrarian Regional Office under the framework of the AGROIDEAS Program. The geographic information systems working group has identified technical expertise and explored strategies for collecting available data on the sustainable livelihoods landscape. The initiative is working towards the development of a Performance Management Plan (PMP) for the ICAA II shared indicators, which will include source and methods for data collection, frequency, and data limitations.
