Abstract
The program is supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by Advanced Engineering International, Inc. (AEAI). The rehabilitation project is funded under a fixed amount reimbursement agreement with USAID. The project has achieved significant progress in the rehabilitation of the Tarbela Hydropower Plant. Unit 1, which has undergone replacement of its winding, is now operating at full capacity of 148 MW at a reservoir level of 1458 feet. The unit is expected to generate 195 MW when the reservoir reaches its maximum level of 1552 feet, resulting in a 10 MW increase in capacity. The total gain achieved after the modernization/replacement of windings at Units 1 and 4 is 118 MW. Work on the replacement of the winding at Unit 4 was initiated in the reporting month and is expected to be completed in May 2012. Procurement of remaining equipment, including digital governors and a digital governor system, is currently underway. The completion date for the project has been revised to December 31, 2012, under Amendment-I of the Tarbela FARA. As of February 2012, a total of $10,579,917 has been disbursed out of the committed $16.5 million for the Tarbela project. The rehabilitation of the Tarbela Hydropower Plant is expected to have a significant impact on the energy sector in Pakistan. The project aims to increase the plant's capacity and efficiency, thereby contributing to the country's energy security. The project's progress and achievements will continue to be monitored and reported on in future reports. The rehabilitation project is being implemented in accordance with the terms and conditions of the fixed amount reimbursement agreement with USAID. The project's progress and achievements will be subject to regular monitoring and evaluation to ensure that the project is on track to meet its objectives. The project's impact on the energy sector in Pakistan will be assessed and reported on in future reports.
