After describing ATI"s replication strategy, this article presents two case studies to illustrate different approaches to replication.

Abstract
The first documents what was initially the spontaneous replication of a sunflower seed oil press in eastern and southern Africa. Subsequently ATI, launched an active marketing/information dissemination strategy to expand the diffusion of the press. The second illustrates a more directed effort by ATI to replicate a low-cost wheelchair in several countries in Latin America. (Author abstract)
