Ruhl, Mary Jane · 1986

Abstract
The ease with which the library can be automated is analyzed in terms of, inter alia, computer availability and computer acquisition plans and library staff familiarity with computers. General and specific requirements for automation are then outlined, as are the automation options and software and hardware requirements. Recommendations are made regarding automation approaches, scheduling, priorities, etc. The projected impact of automation on staffing needs (interim requirements for system design and implementation, training requirements, future workload) is assessed. Also considered are potential new library services, e.g., providing access to external databases, using optical disk technology for information storage and transfer, and providing automation support to the LEGIS database being developed at the Legal Resources Center. Finally, automation cost estimates are provided.
