Abstract
These villages had never had other project activities prior to the start of the MACH 2 (Maternal and Child Health 2) project, as opposed to those described in an earlier report detailing the results of the baseline survey in 12 villages in 1987. Results in this survey showed that mothers don"t know how to administer ORS (oral rehydration solution) correctly, that fewer than half of mothers consult CARE in the first trimester of pregnancy, and that there is a downward trend in immunization coverage of children under age one since the EPI campaign of 1986. Recommendations are for increased focus on health education and community participation and on working with the MOH to find incentives for the voluntary CHW"s (community health workers) to deflect attrition. A post-project survey will be conducted in 1990 to document changes after the 4 years of the project. (Author abstract)
