Abstract
Section I (four papers) analyzes the impact on medical education and training of several major issues and controversies in reproductive health, including: fertility management technologies (e.g., oral contraceptives, the Copper T-380A, levonorgestrel-releasing IUD"s, NORPLANT, and the experimental drug RU 486); the risk approach to maternal and child health care, reproductive health skills and knowledge; and multidisciplinary approaches to reproductive health. Section II (two papers) examines the implications of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases for reproductive health. Section III (four papers) discusses strategies for strengthening reproductive health curricula in medical and nursing education, while Section IV (three papers) highlights the importance of videos and other emerging technologies in reproductive health education and training. Section V (four papers) examines the effectiveness of long-distance learning (i.e., through telecommunications) in upgrading the skills and knowledge of reproductive health professionals in isolated and rural reas of developing countries. Discussion summaries are included in each section.
