INTERNATIONAL RICE RESEARCH INSTITUTE (IRRI)
Major results of collaborative research conducted in 1982 under the auspices of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) are presented under the following main catgories: (1) IRRI"s 10-year old Genetic Evaluation and Utilization (GEU) program (including the IRRI-coordinated International Rice Testing Program linking national and regional rice improvement programs with the GEU program); (2) pest control; (3) irrigation water management; (4) soil and crop management (including results of International Network on Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Evaluations for Rice trials); (5) the climatic environment and rice; (6) constraints on rice yields; (7) consequences of new technology; (8) cropping systems (including results of tests by the Asian Cropping Systems Network); (9) machinery development and testing; and (10) IRRI"s training, information services, finances, and international activities.

Key achievements noted in the introduction include development of a detailed strategy for dryland rice research and completion of a plan for IRRI"s third decade.
