RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND FERTILITY

Evaluation, consisting of a PES facesheet attached to an AID/W Action Memorandum (DOCID: B9311170005001), covers the period 8/77-8/80. Although work done under this project has been useful, the demand from field missions for the project"s services is insufficient to warrant its continuance by the Office of Rural Development and Development Administration of Development Support Bureau (DS/RAD). Moreover, the Office of Population (DS/POP) is unwilling to manage the project since it carries low priority in their office strategy. The difficulty of introducing population concerns into rural development projects seems to have caused the Missions" lack of interest in the project. The project is now closed.
