Abstract
Ohio State University (OSU) will implement the project under a Cooperative Agreement. The project will have outputs in four categories: (1) demonstration projects to test new incentive packages and management systems designed to mobilize savings in rural areas and utilize these funds as investment capital for local lending; (2) applied research on impediments to savings mobilization for rural capital mobilization; (3) TA to support the demonstration projects and improve the efficiency of formal rural financial institutions, along with technical training for the staff of these institutions and policy-oriented training and workshops for USAID"s, host country officials, and other concerned personnel; and (4) seminars and workshops to disseminate lessons learned from field interventions to development practitioners and researchers. Amendment of 6/85 increases core funding as well as Mission funding for long-term research, extends the Cooperative Agreement with OSU from 9/86 to 12/87, and renames the project (formerly Rural Savings for Capital Mobilization) Experimental Approaches to Rural Savings. (PD-AAR-185) Amendment of 5/6/86 extends PACD from 12/87 to 9/89, increases funding, extends the agreement with OSU until 12/88, and authorizes technical support through a RSSA/PASA (with the U.S. Department of Agriculture) previously funded under project 9361096. OSU will extend project research to the Philippines and develop a book incorporating the results of its worldwide research along with description of its methodological approach in various field settings.
