2018 · 7 pages

Abstract
The policy aims to minimize the risks associated with working in these environments, which can be hazardous due to the risk of hypothermia. The SOP sets out the safety rules that must be observed by all personnel who have access to cold rooms or freezer rooms. The responsible personnel include Logisticians, Regional Immunization Officers, District Immunization Officers, and Vaccine storekeepers. They are responsible for ensuring that they and any temporary workers follow correct procedures when working in cold rooms and freezer rooms. Thermal clothing, including thermal trousers, jackets, gloves, and hats, must be available for the use of all personnel whose duties require them to work in cold rooms or freezer rooms. The SOP emphasizes the importance of proper training for all personnel, including temporary workers, on safe working procedures. The general safety rules outlined in the SOP include restrictions on the duration of time spent in cold rooms and freezer rooms without wearing warm clothing. In cold rooms, personnel are not allowed to enter for periods exceeding five minutes without wearing warm clothing, and in freezer rooms, personnel are not allowed to enter unless they are wearing thermal clothing. Personal safety is also a critical aspect of the SOP. Personnel are required to inform a colleague of their activities before entering a cold room or freezer room, check the lock and door before entering, and ensure that the door can be opened from the inside. In addition, personnel are advised to check the people in the room before and after entering, and to lock the door and put the key in a safe place when leaving. The SOP also references related documents and SOPs, including the WHO's User's handbook for vaccine cold rooms and freezer rooms. This emphasizes the importance of adhering to international guidelines and best practices for safe working in cold rooms and freezer rooms. Overall, the SOP aims to ensure the safety of personnel working in cold rooms and freezer rooms, and to minimize the risks associated with these environments. By following the safety rules and procedures outlined in the SOP, personnel can work safely and effectively in these environments.
