USAID. MISSION TO OMAN
Project to help the Government of the Sultanate of Oman (GOVOMAN) expand enrollment in primary and intermediate education by constructing additional educational facilities.
1983
Abstract
The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Education and Youth Affairs Project Department (MOEYA/PD). The project will finance construction of 48 of the 67 new primary and intermediate schools which the GOVOMAN plans to build beginning in 1983, including all the girls" schools targeted by the GOVOMAN. Four private consulting firms will prepare plans for the schools, following a design similar to, but less costly than, schools built by MOEYA in 1981-82. The firms will also supervise construction of the schools by 20 or more private firms. The new schools, which will contain a total of 606 new classrooms, will allow enrollment of 5,936 new students and will provide an additional 11,032 children with upgraded facilities. Secondary project beneficiaries include teahcers, administrators, and others who will work in the new schools and the estimated 2,500 skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled construction workers to be employed by the project. Project Paper Amendment No. 1 of 4/24/85 extends project completion date 1 year and increases funding to finance the design and construction of 29 additional primary and intermediate schools (serving an additional 10,800 children) in 7 Omani educational regions.
