Abstract
and developing countries. Technical assistance ranging from evaluating soil related projects to determining laboratory requirements of national soil survey organizations was provided by 18 consultants to Missions in Peru, Guatemala, Senegal, Rwanda, the Philippines, Thailand, Jamaica, and Sudan. Technical assistance was provided to A.I.D./W in the form of documentation on specialized subjects and in the preparation of Volume IV of the Bibliography on Soils of the Tropics. To increase transfer of soil management, six international committees were working to improve the U.S. Department of Agriculture"s Soil Taxonomy for greater use in inter-tropical areas. Soil classification workshops, which provided an opportunity for testing and refining the Soil Taxonomy, were held in Syria and Lebanon and were planned for Rwanda and Sudan. Assistance was also provided to developing countries in analyzing soils for proper classification according to the Soil Taxonomy.
