USAID. MISSION TO MOROCCO
Grant is provided to the Government of Morocco to improve the capability of the Direction de la Statistique (DS) to collect population, housing, and other socioeconomic data necessary to the planning and implementation of national development programs.
1980
Abstract
The DS will conduct a general census covering 20,000 districts. Approximately 30,000 interviewers will gather data on age, sex, marital status, school enrollment/educational attainment, and employment of individuals, as well as on housing (water supply, sanitary facilities, number of rooms, electricity, and style, type, age, and condition of dwellings). A census mapping program will be carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture"s Cartographic Division. Other Ministries will also collaborate in the census. The Ministry of Education will provide enumerators (teachers) and training sites (school buildings), and the Ministry of Interior will manage field operations. Following the census, a series of specialized, socioeconomic surveys will be conducted on household consumption and expenditures, nutrition, demographics, employment, businesses and artisans, and agriculture input/output. Prior to the census, DS will carry out a pilot census of approximately 20,000 households in 100 districts to test every major census operation -- training, questionnaires, logistics, field manuals, timing estimates, map base, and data processing. U.S. technical assistance will include census and survey specialists and mathematical statisticians, systems analysts and programmers, hardware specialists, a census geographer, and a printing and publications specialist. AID-financed participant training opportunities will include six short-term training programs at the International Statistical Programs Center (ISPC) of the U.S. Bureau of the Census, TDY training for a census geographer, a population/statistics workshop, 10 specialized training courses, and two masters degree programs in applied demography and systems analysis. A.I.D. will also provide financing for computer software and equipment. Amendment of 7/7/83 extends the project through FY85 and adds a data analysis and planning component to allow the Ministry of Planning to more fully use data collected under the project; TA, 2-3 workshops, software, U.S. short-term training, and observation tours will be provided for the new component.
