Sustaining health worker performance in Burkina Faso

This report presents the results of an operations research study of the changes in the interpersonal communications skills of health workers and how to sustain those changes over time through feedback sessions.

Abstract

As part of the Measles Initiative in Burkina Faso, poor communication skills of health workers were identified as a barrier to mothers seeking immunizations for their children. An intervention strategy was developed, which included training and feedback to health workers, print materials, and a radio program. This study compared the health workers" performance and mothers" knowledge and satisfaction in intervention and control areas. (Author abstract)
