Abstract
The program aimed to equip participants with knowledge and skills on independent living and counseling for people with disabilities. The training program in Binh Dinh Province was held from May 14-16, 2022, at the Hai Au Hotel in Quy Nhon City. The program consisted of three days of training, with each day covering various topics related to independent living and counseling. The topics included the concept of independent living, barriers faced by people with disabilities, models of disability, policies supporting people with disabilities, and counseling skills. On the first day, participants were introduced to the concept of independent living and its importance for people with disabilities. They also learned about the barriers faced by people with disabilities and the models of disability. The day concluded with a game to help participants understand the concept of independent living. On the second day, participants learned about the concept of counseling and its principles. They also practiced counseling skills, including active listening, questioning, and feedback. The day concluded with a review of the day's activities and a plan for the next day. On the third day, participants practiced counseling skills in small groups and received feedback from their peers. They also learned about the importance of self-awareness and self-advocacy for people with disabilities. The day concluded with a review of the program and a plan for future activities. The training program in Kon Tum Province was similar to the one in Binh Dinh Province, with the same topics and activities. However, the program was tailored to the specific needs and context of the province. The program aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide counseling and support to people with disabilities. The participants were expected to apply their knowledge and skills in their work with people with disabilities and to promote independent living and counseling in their communities. The program was conducted in a participatory and interactive manner, with a focus on practical skills and real-life examples. The trainers used a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, group discussions, role-playing, and games, to engage participants and promote learning.
