Project to fund feasibility and technical studies to help the Government of Egypt (GOE), its implementing agency, the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation (MIIC), and such private sector organizations as the GOE might indicate to identify, develop, evaluate, test, and execute priority development activities and make appropriate investment decisions to meet long term development needs.

Abstract
The following specific types of studies will be funded: (1) feasibility, pre-project, and project design studies - already proposed are feasibility studies regarding small business credit, feeder industries, and the proposed Cairo-Aswan highway; pre-project studies regarding irrigation, agricultural cooperatives, excess property, low-income water/wastewater, land use infrastructure, science and technology, and women in development; and designs for land development, production credit (Phase I), neighborhood sanitation, and industrial finance projects; (2) general and sector studies, 6 months to a year in length, to examine broader social and economic dynamics and investment options - proposed areas include investment procedures, investment promotion, public sector credit, industrial pollution, and follow-ups to major agricultural sector and subsector reviews; and (3) mid-term evaluations of development projects. In addition, the project will fund technical cooperation activities to assist PVO"s and to provide basic inputs to GOE prefeasibility, policy, and sectoral studies. Proposed activities under this component will support a GOE/CARE agricultural program, GOE/CRS nutrition education efforts, and MIIC activities to improve GOE human resource planning.
