Abstract
ability to help effect such. A U.S. public or private organization will implement the project, which will provide advisory services, commodities, technical exchanges, and training. Advisory services no longer than 6 months in duration and supported by demonstration and didactic materials will help Egyptian technicians and managers improve key areas or solve specific development bottlenecks by introducing new techniques and practices in an atmosphere of close personal collaboration. Advisors will also make recommendations regarding other high-priority problems. The project will also support adaptive research or technology transfer efforts identified as having priority by the U.S.-Egyptian Joint Working Group and will strengthen U.S. economic assistance activities aimed at strategic target populations. The project will sponsor long and short-term U.S. academic and job-related training and short-term U.S. visits for observation or conferences. Expected side benefits of the 3-year project are: (1) increased interest among U.S. institutions and individuals in Egyptian development; (2) closer links between the U.S. and Egyptian scientific communities; and (3) an increase in A.I.D."s understanding of how to design and implement future involvement with recipient Egyptian agencies. Amendment of 7/30/81 provides an additional $5 million to finance planned activities through the third quarter of FY82, while a new nonproject training activity (Workforce Planning and Development, 2630125), which will reorient the focus of the project from ad hoc training to longer-term, specific institutional and skills group development, is designed. Remaining activities will be exclusively in the training area, as the technology transfer portion of the project has been transferred to Project 2630042 (as amended). (XD-HAE-201-A) Amendment of 8/29/82 adds $5 million to finance additional planned activities through FY 1983, while a replacement program (Workforce Planning and Development, 2630125) is designed.
