Abstract
The program began in October 2014 and is set to conclude in September 2015. Key indicators for the program's success include the number of individuals accessing tertiary education programs, the number of individuals trained as a result of USG investments, and the percentage of students with sustained academic averages throughout the project lifetime. The program targets a minimum of 42 scholars from outside Beirut and Mount Lebanon, with a focus on promoting civic engagement and leadership activities among participants. Implementation of the program involved various activities, including the dissemination of information to public high schools throughout Lebanon, the distribution of promotional materials, and the organization of career counseling workshops for top-interviewed candidates. The program also provided orientation sessions for scholars, admitted students to LAU dorms or LAU-sponsored housing, and offered intensive English and tutoring services. As of December 2014, the program had achieved several milestones, including the distribution of 9,384 USP VI brochures to public high schools, the promotion of the program through 15 advertisements in leading newspapers, and the organization of 2 orientation sessions for USP VI scholars. The program also reported a total of 42 scholars admitted to student housing, with 22 scholars admitted to intensive English for one semester and 14 scholars admitted to intensive English for two semesters. The program's progress summary highlights the completion of various activities, including the design of new and comprehensive admission and financial aid applications, the securing of MEHE authorization to visit public schools, and the advertisement of the program in leading newspapers and social media. The program's owner, AVP EM, is responsible for overseeing the completion of these activities. The program's focus on promoting civic engagement and leadership activities among participants is reflected in the indicators for success, which include the percentage of students assuming leadership roles at LAU, the percentage of students assuming prominent positions in university clubs, and the percentage of students participating in internships and community service activities. The program's goal is to promote the development of leadership skills among participants and to increase their engagement with the community.
