This document is a practitioner brief that summarizes the findings of a systematic review of evidence on rule of law (ROL) interventions at the service level.
2022

Abstract
The review focuses on interventions that aim to improve access to justice, crime prevention, and social services for victims of crime and violence. The brief highlights the key messages for practitioners, including the importance of considering the size, social norms, and legal staff requirements of the target population when designing legal aid interventions. It also emphasizes the need to account for the country's justice and case-management systems and to minimize any real or perceived disadvantage to members of the control group in experimental designs. The brief is based on a review of 643 completed impact evaluations, 13 ongoing impact evaluations, 107 completed systematic reviews, and 11 ongoing systematic reviews.
