GLOBAL WATERS
This Enabling Environment Assessment (EEA) sought to understand the enabling environment gaps in Kenya's non-sewered sanitation (NSS) sector, particularly focusing on the key barriers and enablers.
2024

Abstract
NSS is a segment of sanitation infrastructure and services that do not rely on any connection to sewer or drainage networks, and is applicable in both urban and rural areas. This EEA only focuses on urban areas given the significant public health impact of securing safe and reliable sanitation within dense urban communities. This EEA also aligns with USAID WASH-FIN 2’s urban water and sanitation project scope, and aims to contribute insights into NSS implementation challenges and frameworks for greater private sector engagement, including financing.
