Mid-term Evaluation of the Kenya Integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (KIWASH) Project

USAID commissioned this midterm evaluation at the start of the project’s fourth year. The Kenya Integrated Water Sanitation and Hygiene Program (KIWASH) combines nutrition programming with improved access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). KIWASH aims to enable more than one million Kenyans across nine counties to gain access to improved WASH services and increase access to irrigation and nutrition services. KIWASH activities are implemented in nine counties in two principal focus areas: Busia, Nyamira, Migori, Siaya, Kisumu and Kakamega counties in the Lake Victoria Focus Area, and Kitui, Makueni, and Nairobi counties in Tana/Athi Focus Area. USAID/KEA commissioned this midterm evaluation at the start of the project’s fourth year. This evaluation’s primary purposes were to: 1) assess the appropriateness of the KIWASH design, 2) assess progress of implementation to date, and 3) inform future USAID/KEA WASH and nutrition programming.
