Abstract
It explores the relationship between gender and open waste burning, a prevalent waste management practice in low- and middle-income countries that exacerbates climate change and poses health risks. The paper analyzes the primary drivers of open waste burning and the divisions of labor related to this practice through a gender lens, using a case study of Samaná Province, Dominican Republic. It offers practical recommendations for practitioners and policymakers to take gender-responsive actions to end open waste burning.
