Abstract
The article explores the relationship between tourism and waste management on Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam, highlighting how the tourism industry and local authorities engage in place-making practices to maintain a pristine image of the island while hiding the reality of waste pollution. The article draws on the author's field research and interviews with various stakeholders to illustrate the contradictions between the frontstage of tourism development and the backstage of waste management.
