This article, titled The Wastescapes of Samaná, is a research study on solid waste management in the Samaná peninsula of the Dominican Republic.
2023

Abstract
The study, conducted by Kathleen Skoczen, Natividad Pantaleón, and Daniel Abreu, explores how residents of Samaná view, categorize, and handle solid waste. The research reveals that, contrary to common assumptions, local Dominicans are aware of the waste crisis and feel anxious and helpless about resolving it. The study uses Appadurai's theoretical framework of -scapes to understand the waste crisis as a broader environmental issue that requires a comprehensive approach to control plastic waste. The article provides insights into the perspectives of Samaná residents on solid waste management and highlights the need for sustainable solutions to address the waste crisis.
