Abstract
The brief focuses on the importance of urban resilience, defined as the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses, and systems within a city to survive, adapt, and grow in the face of chronic stresses and acute shocks. It highlights key questions to consider in resilience planning, such as identifying primary shocks, vulnerable groups, and necessary links between national and local governments. The brief also provides resources and tools for building resilience, including financing innovation, domestic resource mobilization, and access to private capital. Additionally, it shares lessons learned from the 2020 World Urban Forum and provides guidance for USAID Mission staff on how to increase resilience in their programming.
