USAID
Here is a brief description for the document: This document presents a summary of a case study in the Dominican Republic, specifically in the province of Samaná, where the USAID Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program has been working to address the environmental damage caused by open-air dumpsites.
2023

Abstract
The program has helped to close and transform two of the four dumpsites in the province into transfer stations, processing over 357,000 metric tons of waste, including 47,000 metric tons of plastic. This effort has reduced plastic leaks, greenhouse gas emissions, and improved community health and working conditions for waste workers. The goal is to replicate this solid waste management model across the country, introducing a new approach to waste management planning in the Dominican Republic.
