This research article examines the relationship between avian influenza, food consumption patterns, and the rise in stunting among children in Lower Egypt compared to Upper Egypt.
2015

Abstract
It analyzes data from the 2008 Demographic and Health Surveys) to investigate the determinants of stunting in children aged 6-59 months. The study finds that stunting increased significantly in Lower Egypt between 2005 and 2008, coinciding with the avian influenza outbreak, while stunting decreased in Upper Egypt during the same period. The article suggests that the decreased consumption of poultry, a key animal-source food, may have contributed to the rise in stunting, and highlights the need for improved dietary intake and reduced sugary food consumption to prevent stunting.
