Abstract
It highlights the importance of adequate maternal nutrition during the first 1,000 days window to improve the nutritional status of both the woman and infant and reduce the risk of adverse birth outcomes. The brief presents key findings from a literature review on barriers to maternal diet, including personal preferences, cultural beliefs, economic constraints, and knowledge and beliefs about optimal diet during pregnancy and lactation. It also provides program considerations for addressing these barriers and promoting maternal nutrition.
