FEED THE FUTURE INNOVATION LAB FOR FOOD SECURITY POLICY
This policy research brief explores the drivers of nutrition policy reform in Africa, with a focus on micronutrient deficiencies.
2017

Abstract
The brief presents a comparative analysis of three in-depth case studies in Malawi, South Africa, and Zambia, using the Kaleidoscope Model of Food Security Policy Change. The studies examine the policy processes surrounding micronutrient deficiencies, including iodine, iron, and vitamin A, and identify key drivers and constraints to policy change. The brief highlights the importance of enabling policies, sound institutions, and good governance in implementing nutrition policy commitments, and provides insights into how to support policy dialogue and reform to improve nutrition outcomes.
