The science curriculum for Level 3 students covers various topics, including Unit 4, which focuses on Liberian culture, traditions, practices, and health. This unit includes lessons on the relationship between health, culture, traditions, and practices, as well as the causes of disease and sickness. The unit also covers topics related to microbes, their uses in our lives, and the effects of illegal drugs, smoking, and/or alcohol on our bodies. Unit 4 also includes lessons on living things and nonliving things, which define and describe the characteristics of living and nonliving things. The lessons explain that living things depend on nonliving things in the environment for their survival and that living things have characteristics such as growth, development, energy use, reproduction, cell structure, response to environment, and adaptation. The curriculum also covers topics related to family and community health, including the female and male reproductive systems, the menstrual cycle, and family planning. Additionally, the curriculum includes lessons on STDs/STIs, HIV, and reproductive health, as well as the importance of home and community hygiene and personal hygiene. The Accelerated Quality Education for Liberian Children program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of science and its applications in everyday life. The program is designed to improve the quality of education in Liberia and to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
