Abstract
The program focuses on enhancing the reading skills of Liberian children, with a particular emphasis on Level 1 reading comprehension. The Level 1 Completion Assessment, Reading Passage, is a tool used to evaluate the reading proficiency of students in Liberia. The reading passage, titled "Fana Loves Animals," is a narrative that tells the story of a young girl named Fana who lives in a busy town with her family. Fana has a cat, two hens, a goat, and a dove, and she takes action to protect the doves from being harmed by other children. The passage is written in simple language and is intended to be accessible to students in Liberia who are at the Level 1 reading proficiency level. The Level 1 Summative Test is designed to assess students' ability to read and comprehend the passage. The test is part of the Accelerated Quality Education for Liberian Children program, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Access IDIQ Contract AID-OAA-I-14-00073/AID-669-TO-17-00001. The program is implemented by Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Liberia. The program's goal is to improve the reading skills of Liberian children, which is critical for their academic success and future economic prospects. The Level 1 Completion Assessment, Reading Passage, is an important tool in achieving this goal, as it provides a standardized measure of students' reading proficiency and helps teachers identify areas where students need additional support. The program's impact is expected to be significant, as improved reading skills can lead to better academic performance, increased economic opportunities, and a more informed and engaged citizenry. The Accelerated Quality Education for Liberian Children program is an important investment in the future of Liberia, and the Level 1 Completion Assessment, Reading Passage, is a key component of this effort.
