Abstract
Despite limited finances, intensive work has continued. Ten more junior staff (for a total of 38) departed for U.S. training; 42 person-months of technical assistance were provided; $260,000 in equipment arrived and more was being procured; and 790 titles were added to the library and nearly 1,000 more were en route or being processed. Preparation of the site for the new Agricultural Biology/Chemistry complex was completed, tenders for the construction of the main building were evaluated, and major improvements were made to the Dodangella and Mawella experimental farms and to the Faculty"s Maha Illuppallama Unit. It is recommended that the timetables and/or targets for enrollment, facility preparation, overseas postgraduate training, technical assistance, library development, commodity procurement, and faculty staffing be revised to reflect current financial constraints and resulting delays. Both USAID/SL and the Sri Lankan Government should provide added funding; the former has tentatively committed new funds.
